THE CASTLE SE17

JAY ELECTRONICA - EXHIBIT C 'LIVE'

This tune was leaked as a radio rip all over the internet last year and has made everyone take notice of Jay Electronica.
He's been on the circuit for a few years but I reckon 2010 is his year! Watch out for Diddy, Mos Def, & DJ premier... Oh and btw his baby mother is Miss Erykah Badu, need I say anymore.

VAGABONDZ REFURB PARTY

Check me here on Saturday...... new funktion one sound system!!!!!

Brixton Jamm is getting a fresh lick of paint, a new layout, brand new funktion-one sound system, new lights and lasers so we are having a HUGE party to celebrate!

STARKEY GONE DONE IT AGAIN

Starkey featured on Mary Ann Hobbs show last week and was asked to build a tune over the course of the two hour show. He had help from percussionist/producer Reso and vocalist Anneka and was given a little extra hand from some of the BBC DJs, producers and members of the public. The aim was to produce a tune that could potentially be played on the Chris Moyles Breakfast show the following day.

Check the result here

Make sure to listen to the show in full as it will only be available on iplayer until this Wednesday night: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pqhny

Also make sure to check him out whilst he's in London, i believe he'll be here till March time. Take a peek at his myspace for further info: www.myspace.com/starkey

HERAKUT

My mum got me into Herakut a few years ago, Herakut is a collaboration of the aliases Hera and Akut, two graffiti artists, one male and one female from Frankfurt and Erfurt respectively. Working together since 2004, Herakut combine deeply contrasting styles – Akut’s photorealist spray paint, with Hera’s more traditional painterly methods – to create highly stylised street works. This year me and my brother and sister got her this book for her birthday, its called "The Perfect merge".

I just love the weird, dark beauty of the paintings, the images always stick in my head. The way they paint skin is amazing, it has a sort of dewy glow. In the surreal mix of sketch and photo realism they always manage to capture a moment in time in the eyes of the character.

This is my absolute favourite painting....

it's called "Street Dart" and my mum is lucky enough to have the original sketch.

To look at more work by Herakut click here.

2004 MALA MIX

Listen to the mix here

TRACKLISTING
Augustus Pablo - Revolution Dub
Digital Mistikz - Intergalactic Dub
Kode 9 - The Blues White
Digital Mystikz - Changes
Digital Mystikz - Neverland
Digital Mystikz - The Wrath VIP
Digital Mystikz - Crystal Lake
Digital Mystikz - Stuck
Digital Mystikz - Save Me Dub
Digital Mystikz - Mood Dub
Loefah - Root
Digital Mystikz - Ital

This was the first time Mala had played on radio and was his second live dj set.

In Mala's words....

"In 2004 the late, great John Peel contacted me, saying he was enjoying my music. So I said I'll send him dubs. I did and true to his word he played them on his Radio 1 show. He would play Digital Mystikz exclusives. He was the first person to champion the sound on national radio, regardless of how underground it was. He also played some Digital Mystikz tunes which to this day have never seen a release. He also played tunes by others like Distance, Vex'd, Mark One aswell as few more producers back then....
So much was happening in 2004, so much music getting made so much love amongst a unit a producers/dj's and listeners. A community I was pleased to be a part of, it became my life.

On 16 December 2004 Radio One broadcast a huge show which was in tribute of him. The show went on for hours and many artists like The Undertones, Orbital, the Cure, New Order, Supergrass, Robert Plant, Underworld, Siouxsie Sioux, the Buzzcocks, damon albarn, many more also took part.
I was lucky enough to be asked to play Live. This was the 1st time to play on any radio station and my second live dj set. As nervous as i felt, it was an honor and a great privilege to close his tribute show which was recorded with Annie Nightingale at the BBC's Maida Vales Studio's. "

Will Robson Scott is one of the most talented photographers I know and he's just updated his new website with some never seen before pictures from Crack and Shine which is London's first graffiti book plus a whole section about dogs and their owners. I love the way Will captures people at moments that perfectly define their personality, he is mos def a badman behind the lens! I always look forward to seeing & hearing about his up and coming projects as I know they're always gonna be sick.

So stay tuned and check his site here.

DECODE AT THE V&A

Really wanna go check this exhibition at the V&A...

Decode: Digital Design Sensations showcases the latest developments in digital and interactive design, from small, screen-based, graphics to large-scale interactive installations. The exhibition includes works by established international artists and designers such as Daniel Brown, Golan Levin, Daniel Rozin, Troika and Karsten Schmidt. The exhibition features both existing works and new commissions created especially for the exhibition.

Decode is a collaboration between the V&A and onedotzero, a contemporary arts organisation operating internationally with a remit to promote innovation across all forms of moving image and interactive arts.

The exhibition explores three themes: Code presents pieces that use computer code to create new works and looks at how code can be programmed to create constantly fluid and ever-changing works. Interactivity looks at works that are directly influenced by the viewer. Visitors will be invited to interact with and contribute to the development of the exhibits. Network focuses on works that comment on and utilise the digital traces left behind by everyday communications and looks at how advanced technologies and the internet have enabled new types of social interaction and mediums of self-expression.

Decode will be on display in The Porter Gallery. Exhibits can also be found on the V&A Exhibition Road façade, in the Grand Entrance, John Madejski Garden and South Kensington tunnel, at the bottom of the stairs to the National Art Library (Staircase L), as well as in the Science Museum.
